LEDs for DLP applications require sophisticated driving technology in order to utilize
the available power for high pulse currents synchronized with the DMD mirrors.
LED currents may vary from a few mA up to 30A, while the LED pulses may vary from a few hundred nanoseconds up to milliseconds.
Some applications require high dimming range, while others require maximum available power.
All these applications require that the projector system maintains full control over the amount of light delivered to the medium, whether it is a projection screen, 3D measurement object or a UV sensitive material.
That is why Visitech has developed LED current regulators that are controlling the amount of light coming out of the LED synchronized with the DMD mirrors instead of only acting as a standard LED current regulator.
A standard current regulator will suffer from unlinearities (e.g. over/undershoot) in the LED current pulse characteristics that may be visible as artifacts on the image provided by the DMD.
Visitech’s light dosing technology minimizes such unwanted behaviour by calculating the appropriate light dose for each and one of the color depth bit planes.
Hence, the fully digital LED current regulator (pat. pend) gives the user availability to control a large amount of LED driver parameters in real time. It also enables the user to monitor the behaviour using the host interface of the LED driver.
The LED drivers are available as R/G/B (3 channel) or single channel versions supporting low to high power LEDs from most vendors. The LED driver IP is also available for selected customers.
