USB (Universal Serial Bus) is considered to be the RS232 successor, having a greatly increased data rate capability.
USB has become a standard for most PC peripherals, and multiple devices can be connected to one USB host controller. As distinct from the RS interfaces, the USB interface includes a higher level SW protocol.
